Digital clutter. Boring. Let’s get out of it.
Tuesday brought a new toy to the table. Polaroid just launched the Go Generation 3, the latest iteration of their self-proclaimed “world’s smallest instant analog camera.” It’s tiny. Built for the Go film format. Prints are small enough to slip into your phone case if you’re that organized. Or not.
Who is this for? Gen Z, apparently. The brand is pushing hard on that “analog summer” vibe, basically begging users to look up from screens and into the real world. A noble goal if you ask me, especially with a device this easy to pocket.
Stine Bauer Dahlberg, Chief Product Officer, claims they “focused on perfecting the optical system.” They also brag about a “genuinely powerful flash.” And optimized selfie mode. Close-up shots of you and your pals. Sounds specific. It works.
Here’s the scoop on the hardware.
The Guts and Glare
It’s got a better flash, obviously. For the dimly lit parties or beach sunsets that usually turn out muddy on old Polaroids. The new lens handles glare better too, with improved contrast.
You can also get closer. Really close. For those self-portraits.
But it’s not just new stuff. They kept the good old stuff from Gen 2. Self-timer. Double-exposure mode where images stack up weird and lovely in one frame. Oh, and there’s a selfie mirror so you actually look where the lens is. Smart touch.
Battery life hasn’t moved much. About 15 packs of film on a single charge. You get a wrist strap in the box, plus the USB cable and the standard one-year warranty. Digital integration? Yes, scan and share via the free app if you can’t help yourself.
Pricing
- Camera: $90 for either Gen 2 or Gen 3. Same price tag.
- Film: $22 for a double pack. That gets you 32 shots total, or 16 per pack. The print size is tiny — image area sits around 1.85 x 1.81 inches.
Want to look distinct? Gen 3 comes in five fresh colors. Light blue, purple, teal. Or you can go classic black or white.
Hit up Polaroid.com now, or wait for June 16 when select retailers get their stock.
Wait, It Got Bigger?
Look at the numbers. The Gen 3 measures 4.2 x 3.4 x 2.5 inches, weighing 8.9 ounces. The older Gen 2? Slightly smaller at 4.3 x 3.3 x 2.4 inches and just under 8.5 ounces.
Math is math. The new one is physically larger.
So is Polaroid lying? We asked. A rep clarified the branding. When they say “world’s smallest,” they mean the entire Go line, not just the specific unit in your hand. Technically correct, maybe. Practically misleading. Who really checks millimeter specs before buying a $90 camera? Nobody. You want the pictures. You want the vibe.
Will you trade your Instagram feed for physical squares? Maybe. Maybe not. The camera is ready if you change your mind.
