July 14 Strands: How to “Make Yourself Comfortable”

22

Another day, another puzzle. Today’s NYT Strands #863 didn’t give us too much grief. Honestly? It was easier than most.

If you’re stuck, look for things to sit on. The theme is Make yourself comfortable. A bit vague, maybe, but the clue sharpens up: Sit on it.

Stumped? Don’t worry. Find any four-letter words to unlock the game hints. Here’s what I pulled off the board first. Any three four-letter-plus words triggers a theme hint, so these just did the trick:

  • VAIN
  • HAIL
  • TOES
  • MOOT
  • ERASE
  • ROCK
  • CROCK
  • BEAR
  • BARE
  • ROCKET
  • BRAG

Now for the actual answers. The goal? Use every single letter. You need all the themed words plus the spangram. That long horizontal bar across the board. It used to feel like there were always eight words. Not anymore. The number shifts.

These are the furniture pieces you need to find:

CHAIR, ROCKER, BEANBAG, RECLINER, THRONE, OTTOMAN

And finally, the spangram itself.

SITS COMFORTABLY

That’s the key. Tie it all together and the grid fills out. Clean. Simple. Done.
